Year 3 Semester 1
"Contemplate"
This studio focused on the concept of archiving memories. I was tasked to research an abandoned city and create an archive/exhibition for an uninhabited town. I chose to study the French commune of Oradour-sur-Glane, a site devastated during World War II when its inhabitants were massacred by Nazi forces.
As viewers enter the temporary war memorial, they must walk through the devastation wrought to the city of Oradour-Sur-Glane, France. The ruins remind the viewers of the once thriving village. Transitioning from these ruins, the viewers enter the heart of the memorial where they are able to observe the domestic lifestyle of those that were lost. Continuing further through the memorial, the images of the ruins are replaced with images of the city at it’s prime. Surrounding these images are displays of photos, items, and artifacts representing daily living common in the 1940s. Upstairs on the mezzanine is a model of Oradour-Sur-Glane depicting the village before the massacre. Here, there is also a tv screen discussing the history of Oradour-Sur-Glane, the destruction taken place there, and the survivor's testimonies.

Mid Review Assignment
"Immersive Memory"
For this assignment, I selected a domestic spatial typology and developed a curatorial system capable of storing, displaying, and expanding an archive that conveys a collective narrative. I focused on the evolution of a young girl’s bedroom from the 1820s to today, studying shifts in furniture, storage, toys, games, and books over time. I designed a portable, inflatable dome structure referencing the form of children’s bouncy houses. A narrowing inflatable entryway encourages both children and adults to engage with the space playfully. The interior features inflatable furnishings, inflatable storage systems, and representative artifacts from each era of study. Because nearly all components are inflatable, the museum can be sanitized, deflated, stored, and easily transported to new sites. Projections of period-specific games, books, and cinematic environments animate the interior surface of the dome, immersing visitors of all ages in a vividly reimagined childhood landscape.
