Year 2 Semester 1

"Integrate"

In this studio, we explored ways to meaningfully connect the diverse fabric of Panamanian cultural traditions with the vibrant community of North Knoxville by proposing a combined artisan marketplace and workshop environment. By arranging elements representing the Guna Yala community in Panama and the Knoxville community in a grid-like, harmonious pattern, the interior space designs to welcome the Lonsdale community to come together, collaborate, socialize, learn, and create. Ideas of home and organic, fluid shapes and colors represented in mola quilt or blouse designs handmade by the Guna Yala community are used throughout the interior of the space. I even designed and sewed my very own mola incorporating inspiration from Guna Yala mola designs and symbols, which I integrated into the artisan marketplace and workshop as well!
